Lightbulb What do you know now that you wish you knew then?

I am very new to GW...only been playing a few weeks. I have all three campaigns and the expansion, but am focusing on my Prophecies El/Mo right now. I am at level 13 and just made it to Yak's Bend.

I have learned a lot by asking questions and perusing the Guru forums, and think it is a great resource. Some stuff I learn is really beneficial...like today someone helped me realize that I can add mods to my equipment and then salvage them later for reuse.

What are some really important tips, suggestions, facts, etc. that you have learned that you would like to pass on?

Thanks and good fortune.

P.S. If there is a list of these somewhere already out there...I would appreciate the link.

Dont try to flank the other team in ra while using a warrior that is diseased. First of all, I died before I got half way there and ummmm they can see me.

Sell black dyes to a dye trader and not a merchant. Took me a few days to realise they paid more back then.

dont use black dye on non max armor---you will get that when you make it to dorks (or kaneng or command post)....and the collector armor is just as good as the stuff from the armorer. (as are the non-max weapons until then)....

what I wished I had known was there was going to be titles and that not dying before I reached level 20 would in the future be an accomplishment (not worth deleting my almost 3 year old character for, but well).

I wish I knew there was a title for getting level 20 in presear, because I would have gotten it. By the time I found out about it, I'd already completed prophecies and factions and gotten about 10 titles, and wasn't going to remake the character. But man, I wish I'd known. If it even existed when I first started playing, which I kinda doubt.

All my experience is in pve but I would say.

Try out all secondary professions before choosing one.

Always use the collectors in the game to that end pick up everything and use sell or salvage it all.

By the time you reach the location of max armour and weapons you should have a reasonable amount of money to equip yourself.

If you need to find any item or material to complete a mission consider getting more than you need and selling the rest to players too lazy to do it themselves.

Buy only what skills you feel you need as the cost of skills and capture signets rises to a max of one platinum, its a mistake to waste resources when your just beginning.
Plenty of time to splash out when your richer.

Unless your into solitary play make friends and try to get into a good guild, rule of thumb being if you do missions with members of a guild and like their style try to join them.

Sometimes its easier to explore an area first before doing a mission there, missions often add extra groups of monsters so accepting multiple missions then doing one of them can cause problems.

take your time and enjoy the game

listen to more experienced players, thats number one.
also make sure u dont overpay items while buying.
and try to find a good build early in game, that will make everything so terrible much easier.

guildwiki is great help, even how much u know and how good u are

Don't rush through stuff and enjoy it; have fun . Explore different skill combinations too; it makes things more exciting, and makes you a better player.

There's also a really old thread with some other advice too.

I second this. If I had known Anet was gonna toss this title in before it was released things would've been a little different.

The merchant gives you more money for white loot if you identify it first. The profit is greater depending on how hard the area is. As a rule of thumb I'd say that if the town you came from allowed you to have 8 team-members, then the white loot you get in that area will be worth identifying before selling it.

And I'd agree that joining a guild that's helpful to new players is key. Also bookmark the guild wars wiki (note that it has a section on game basics too)

Something else would be to check both wikis too. They're both lacking things that the other has :P

The one linked to above is actually GuildWiki. The GuildWars Wiki usually refers to the official wiki (second link).

there is an amazing build called a 55 monk that is uber for farming, this will get you elite armour in about 3 days if you get a lucky drop.

http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:Mo/any_55hp_Solo_Monk

Becasue its a monk you can change back to a general build and you will find that you will always be a ble to get a party.

http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:Mo/any_WoH_Hybrid

try them 2 builds and see how you get on.
use the top one for farming and the bottom one for general pve use.

p.s. you will need about 20k first to buy all the equipment needed for the farming build. you will also need another set of equipment for the bottom build.

A lot of good stuff here. Very helpful to me and hopefully others. Any advice about salvage kits...when to use expert vs. regular etc.

I use expert mostly, on the chance that I will salvage rare crafting materials. I don't use regular that much anymore.

Don't rule out a particular skill, class, or campaign. Keep an open mind...you never know from where you can gain an advantage.
